Freedom Forum is organizing a one-day workshop program themed "Promoting Right to Information and Open Government Data in Federal Nepal" on 23 March (9th Chaitra).

Lawyers demanded amendment to the Judicial Council Act to make it mandatory for judges to declare their assets and liabilities.

Advocate Sunil Ranjan Singh said he went to file a public interest litigation on Thursday seeking public disclosure of judges’ assets, but the Supreme Court administration told him to first file a petition at the Judicial Council.

The Program on "Women and the Right of Access to Information: Inform Women, Transform Lives" is held on February 14 and 15 at Atlanta GA USA. 
The program focuses on the theme to promote Women's Right to access to Information, Field stories of several countries like Liberia, Guatemala, and  Bangladesh. The program will also focus on the value of transparency and access to information for women and advancing women's right to information and the role of international institutions and instruments. 

Public institutions, including government organisations of the district, have been found reluctant to make public information of public importance, stakeholders complain. 
Despite the existence of the law that obliges the public agencies to publish information about their work performance every three months, they are often found refusing to make public information of public importance. 
The government enacted the Right to Information Act (RTI) on July 21, 2007 as a tool to make the public institutions accountable and responsible towards the citizens.

स्थानीय बिकास तथा संघीय मामिला मन्त्रालयले बनाएको नमुना नियमावलीको दफा १७मा कार्यपालिकाले प्रबक्ता तथा सूचना आधिकारी तोक्ने व्यवस्था छ| कार्यालयको तर्फबाट जारी गर्नुपर्ने सार्बजनिक महत्वका बिज्ञप्ति, वक्तव्यदिने काम प्रबक्ताको र आधिकारिक सूचनाहरु प्रबाह गर्ने काम सूचना आधिकरिको हुने व्यवस्था छ|

    राष्ट्रिय सूचना अधिकार दिवसको सन्दर्भ पारेर फ्रिडम फोरमको अगुवाइमा गत भदौ ४ गते मुलुकभरका ७५३ (पहिले ७४४ र पछि प्रदेश नं. २ मा थपिएका नौसहित) स्थानीय तहमा सूचना माग गरिएकोमा हालसम्म १८५ स्थानीय तहबाट सूचना प्राप्त भएको छ ।

    फ्रिडम फोरमका अध्यक्ष हरिविनोद अधिकारी, महासचिव झर्मेन्द्र झा, कोषाध्यक्ष केदार दाहालल सदस्य राममाया लामिछाने, कार्यकारी प्रमुख तारानाथ दाहाल, कार्यक्रम संयोजक  सञ्जिव घिमिरेलगायतका तर्फबाट मागिएका उक्त सूचना अध्ययन गर्दा १८ बुँदामा मागिएका सबै प्रश्नहरूको उत्तर समेटिएको छ ।

Right to Information (RTI) is usually used as a synonym for democracy. This is a tool to strengthen citizens’ sovereignty. Sweden is the first country to enact the first RTI law in the world in 1766. So far (until the end of 2017), 119 countries in the world have enacted RTI laws. This is also one of the main components of human rights. Developed countries, particularly the European countries were the first ones to champion the RTI. While Asian countries have also practised RTI laws pretty well, Latin American countries are well ahead in its implementation.
